Module 1

The Core Basics

Total duration 1 hour 53 mins

Section 01

Getting To Know Your Machine

Duration 15 mins

First up, we learn all about your machine and what it's capable of. Time to dust of your machines manual!! We'll use this along with the included print out and some guidance from me to find out all of the information needed to make your embroidery journey as smooth as possible.

Section 03

Stabilisers

Duration 26 mins

One of the most confusing machine embroidery topics and the one I get asked about most often - stabilisers! In this section we dive into the world of stabilisers and look at many different types and why there are so many!! Won't just one stabiliser do? In a word - no! I explain why and my method of selecting the best one for the job.

Section 02

Needles & Thread

Duration 29 mins

Next we take on needles and thread, looking at when to change your needle, why it's important to do so and why different types of needle and thread matter. We also look at a variety of different thread types and why the cheapest thread may not be the best choice!

Section 04

Hooping Techniques

Duration 31 mins

So many people I meet really struggle with hooping. In this section we cover how to use your hoops correctly, how to hoop up properly and we look at some alternative hooping methods too. We even cover what those plastic grid things are that came with your hoops and how they can be so useful!!

Module 2

Designs

Total duration 2 hours

Section 01

Embroidery File Formats

Duration 5 mins

In this first section, we learn about embroidery file formats, what they are, why there are so many different ones and which are relevant to you and your machine. This section includes My Embroidery Format Guide which is a downloadable PDF for your reference.

Section 02

Where To Buy Designs

Duration 11 mins

The second section is all about where to buy designs and includes tips and advice to consider when making purchases of embroidery designs online. Also, we look at some of my favourite websites for buying designs and also additional tips for buying designs on Etsy.

Section 03

Downloading, Storing & Transferring Designs

Duration 38 mins

In this section we look at what to do with all of those designs you have just purchased!! It's too easy to buy and then forget what you've bought so I take you through the process of downloading the designs from the embroidery website, how best to file them on your computer and then sending them to your embroidery machine.

Section 04

Digitising & Software

Duration 50 mins

The chunkiest section of this module and for good reason! This section will show you the basics of digitising, explaining what digitising is and the difference between auto and manual digitising. We also discuss options if digitising isn't for you because not it's definitely not for everyone, but there are still options.

Section 05

Testing

Duration 14 mins

The final section covers why it's important to test designs (especially newly digitised ones). We discuss which fabric to test designs on, which threads and stabiliser to use too. Also included, is My Stabiliser Checklist from Module 1 to help you with your stabiliser choices.

A bit about me

Your friend in embroidery and sewing!

I thought I had better introduce myself properly! I'm Rachel Bunney and I absolutely love helping people to fall in love with their machines.

I have worked in the home sewing industry for over 15 years, starting off in 2008 in a beautiful fabric shop and sewing school in the market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire.

From there I spent 10 years working for Brother Sewing Machines Europe as one of two product specialists in the UK. I looked after a whole host of sewing machine shops in the South of the UK where I would help and train dealers, their staff and customers too.

I started Bunney & Thread so that I could continue helping people with their machines, whilst navigating the wibbly wobbly journey of becoming a mum!

In August 2023 I joined the team at Bernina UK where I teach their customer foundation courses in their London head office. It has been a wonderful challenge to learn all about a new brand of machine and I am thoroughly enjoying the blend of Bunney & Thread and Bernina!

...you're a complete beginner

...you've had a go but not confident

...you keep hitting setbacks

...you want a refresh of the basics

This course is for you if...

Now is the time...

In 2 hours you'll have acquired more relevant knowledge and clarity than you would spending an entire week on YouTube and Facebook!

...to take action

Stop letting that fear and doubt take over. Do you want to let your machine collect dust for another year?

What's holding you back?

Make now the time that you invest in yourself and master your machine.

Module 1 & 2 available now!

"It covers all the questions for new and more experienced sewers."
